Use more than one network

Connect one computer to several nixscale networks and switch between profiles.

A Tailscale client connects to one network at a time. If you belong to several nixscale networks (or to nixscale and a personal Tailscale account), each one is stored as a separate profile and you switch between them.

Add a second network

To keep your current connection, use login instead of up in the command. That creates a new profile:

Terminal
tailscale login --login-server=https://k7mp.hs.nixscale.com --authkey=<key>

You get the command from the second network's panel: Add device → Create key → Copy command. Details: Connect your device.

Switch between profiles

To list your profiles:

Terminal
tailscale switch --list

To switch, pass the profile's name:

Terminal
tailscale switch profile-name

The switch is immediate: access to the network of the inactive profile closes, and access to the one you switched to opens. On Linux, put sudo in front of these commands.

Which network am I on?

Terminal
tailscale status

The first line of the output shows your device and address on the active profile. Each network uses its own address block, but reading the network off an address means knowing those blocks by heart; the easiest way to tell is the active profile in tailscale switch --list.

Leave one profile

To sign out of the active profile:

Terminal
tailscale logout

This only ends the session on that network; your other profiles stay. Getting back onto that network needs a new key. If you also want the device removed from the network's list, see Leave a network and remove a device.
